Volunteering Program - Casa de la Luz Ayahuasca Costa Rica

Internship at Casa de la Luz

A Journey of Learning, Preservation & Inner Growth

Since our beginning, Casa de la Luz has welcomed those who wish to walk the path of sacred plant medicine—not as spectators, but as conscious participants. Our internship program is designed for individuals who seek to understand the depth of Ayahuasca work from the inside out. Whether you're a student of life, a healer in training, or someone searching for deeper meaning, this is a rare opportunity to be close to the medicine in a respectful and supportive setting.

Our journey began with WorkAway years ago, offering work exchange experiences that helped shape the structure and values of our current internship. We are a small, focused retreat center located in Turrúcares, Costa Rica, offering private ceremonies and personalized guidance. With over 8 years of experience leading Ayahuasca ceremonies across Costa Rica, our vision has always centered on deep integration, respectful preparation, and authentic practice.

This is not a tourist experience. It is a chance to participate in real-life ceremonies and learn from the inside. As an intern, you will take on supportive roles such as:

  • Ceremony assistant

  • Guardian of the space

  • Musician (if musically inclined)

  • Facilitator of yoga, breathwork, or other holistic practices

You will not be asked to lead ceremonies, but you will be close to the process—observing, learning, and growing. One of the most powerful aspects of this internship is the exposure to a wide range of individuals who come to drink Ayahuasca. Each person brings their own story, background, and energy. Being present through these diverse experiences offers profound insights into the emotional, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of healing.

We are especially interested in profiles with some background or experience in:

  • Working with people (e.g., teaching, guiding, caregiving, or social work)

  • Art, music, or creative expression

  • Therapeutic practices or natural medicine

  • Education, psychology, or wellness fields

A sincere interest in sacred plant medicine, personal growth, and service is essential.

Help us transform our sanctuary of healing

During our volunteering program, we are advocates for people doing what they like the most, plus participating in the crafting, preparation, and integration of Ayahuasca ceremonies. Whether you are an artist and like to do paintings or crafts, you want to learn and advance your skills in gardening and permaculture, or you like writing and can do articles or notes for our websites, we want you with us in what you are best at! Exploring is also infinite, and we are honored to host your workshops related to natural medicine, meditation, yoga, and healing therapies.

Participate in your own ayahuasca ceremonies

Drinking Ayahuasca during the volunteer program is not the same experience as taking it at a retreat. Volunteers have the privilege to dive even deeper into plant medicine and enhance their skills for their own practices. The slow pace, connectedness, and community aspects of the program make it a unique way of using the plant medicine Ayahuasca.

Make NEW friends and expand your network

We host from 1 to 2 volunteers per month, and you will encounter professionals of all kinds, masters, coaches, and so on, with whom you can relate to and exchange knowledge and experience. Our minimum stay for the program is 15 days, and the maximum is 90 days.

A previous interview and selection process is required, and you don’t need experience with Ayahuasca.
