Casa de la Luz is a working farm in Turrúcares where we grow medicinal plants, with more than 10 years of experience leading Ayahuasca ceremonies across Costa Rica. Our volunteer program grew out of the work-exchange experiences we began years ago, and it is built on the same values: respect, preparation, integration and authentic practice.
We are no longer a retreat center. Today the farm is a space for volunteers: you live alongside our team, exchange knowledge with people from all over the world, and learn from the inside. There are no guests; ceremonies are shared only among volunteers.

You will not be asked to lead ceremonies, but you will be close to the process: observing, learning and growing. Volunteers take on supportive roles such as:
- Ceremony assistant (ceremonies are held among volunteers only; there are no guests)
- Guardian of the space
- Musician, if musically inclined
- Facilitator of yoga, breathwork or other holistic practices
Paint, write articles or notes for our websites, advance your gardening skills, or host a workshop on natural medicine, meditation, yoga or healing therapies. We want you doing what you do best.
No previous Ayahuasca experience is required. We especially welcome people with a background in:
- Working with people: teaching, guiding, caregiving or social work
- Art, music or creative expression
- Therapeutic practices or natural medicine
- Education, psychology or wellness
A sincere interest in sacred plant medicine, personal growth and service is essential. This program is a respectful, educational immersion; it is not a fast track to becoming a facilitator.

2 to 4 volunteers per month
Your time is shared across cooking, planting, garden and farm work, cleaning, painting and artistic tasks. Help on the farm is highly appreciated.
With the same gender, 2 people per room.
Large tent (made for 5, used by only one) with mattress bed.
Both options include Wi-Fi, fan and electricity outlets, plus shared spaces, hammocks, living room and desks.
A daily contribution covers food, lodging, ceremonies, alternative medicines, guided tours and the time we dedicate to your learning.

Ceremonies are shared only among volunteers. The slow pace, connection and community of the program allow a deeper experience of the medicine.

Help us transform our sanctuary of healing
During our volunteering program, we are advocates for people doing what they like the most, plus participating in the crafting, preparation, and integration of Ayahuasca ceremonies. Whether you are an artist and like to do paintings or crafts, you want to learn and advance your skills in gardening and permaculture, or you like writing and can do articles or notes for our websites, we want you with us in what you are best at! Exploring is also infinite, and we are honored to host your workshops related to natural medicine, meditation, yoga, and healing therapies.
Participate in your own ayahuasca ceremonies
Drinking Ayahuasca during the volunteer program is not the same experience as taking it at a retreat. Volunteers have the privilege of diving even deeper into plant medicine and enhancing their skills for their own practices. The slow pace, connectedness, and community aspects of the program make it a unique way of using the plant medicine Ayahuasca.
Dates open for volunteers from December 2026 to May 2027. Minimum stay is 7 days.
